Custom catalogue + checkout, built from scratch — not Shopify
When your catalogue, pricing or checkout doesn't fit a store template, a custom build gives you exactly the flow your business runs on — and the code to own it.
I need a custom online catalogue with cart and checkout built from scratch, not on Shopify — who can build it and how much does it cost?
A bespoke catalogue-plus-checkout built from scratch starts at €4,000 and about a month, scaling with catalogue size and payment logic. You own a database-backed catalogue with search and filters, cart, checkout, an admin panel, roles and multilingual support — the same stack behind eRENTAL's 399-item store with live currency.
HOW IT WORKS
Discovery and data model
We map your catalogue, categories, attributes and how a customer actually buys, then design the database around it — not around a template's limits.
Catalogue with search and filters
Your products go into a real database with categories, attributes and images, plus search and filters that match how buyers browse, like eRENTAL's 24 categories.
Cart, checkout and payments
Cart, checkout and payment collection wired to your logic — fixed sale, rental windows, deposits or quotes — with Stripe or your provider.
Admin, roles and languages
An admin panel to manage catalogue, orders and content from inside, with roles, permissions, multilingual copy and a mobile version.
Deploy and hand over
I deploy to production on your domain, hand over the code, and can stay on for support and new features.
The right fit when your process — rentals, availability windows, complex pricing, roles, or an unusual checkout — doesn't map onto a store template, and you want to own the system rather than rent it.
If you sell standard physical products with a normal cart and standard shipping, Shopify or WooCommerce will be faster and cheaper than a custom build. Go bespoke only when your catalogue or checkout genuinely doesn't fit those tools — otherwise a template plus a good theme is the honest answer.

Why build from scratch instead of using Shopify?
Shopify is excellent for standard product sales. It gets expensive and awkward when your model isn't standard — rentals with availability windows, deposits, role-based pricing, quotes instead of instant sale, or a checkout that branches. A custom build shapes the database and checkout around your actual process, and you own the code instead of renting a platform and paying per-app fees.
How much does a custom catalogue and checkout cost?
It starts at €4,000 and scales with scope. A lean catalogue with cart and checkout sits near that floor; a fuller system with roles, complex pricing, availability logic and AI features runs €9,000–14,000. The main drivers are catalogue size, how unusual your checkout is, and the number of integrations. Every quote is a scope-based range, not a fixed number pulled from nowhere.
How long will it take?
From about a month for a focused catalogue and checkout, with a typical build landing in six to ten weeks. Timeline tracks scope: number of product types, how much custom pricing or availability logic is involved, payment integrations, and languages. You get a working version early and we iterate, rather than waiting months for one big reveal.
Can it handle rentals or bookings, not just plain sales?
Yes. eRENTAL is exactly that — a rental catalogue with a date and availability engine, so items can't be double-booked, are priced per period, and are checked out for a window. The same approach covers bookings, deposits, quotes and role-based pricing. If your checkout is more than 'add to cart, pay once', that's precisely where a custom build earns its cost.
Will it be multilingual, mobile and mine to keep?
Yes on all three. It ships responsive down to mobile, with native multilingual content — eRENTAL runs in three languages — and you own the code and data outright. I deploy to your domain and hosting; there's no platform lock-in and no per-app subscription stack. Optional ongoing support keeps it updated, but the system is yours whether or not you keep me on.
